DESCRIPTION:Spaceworks Tacoma announces A Pioneering Spirit: A Fight for Liberty and Freedom\, an educational art exhibit by Dionne Bonner at the 950 Gallery. \n\n“Nettie J. Asberry\, 1865 – 1968\, Tacoma\, Washington” Oil Painting by Dionne Bonner \nEXHIBIT DURATION\nJan 9 – Feb 20\, 2020 \nCLOSING RECEPTION\nFeb 20\, 6 – 9PM\nEvent on Facebook \nExplore little-known facts about WA state history through written biographies and a series of larger-than-life portraits by Tacoma-based artist Dionne Bonner. The oil paintings and biographical information bring to life the journey of a handful of African American pioneers who fought tirelessly for liberty for their community in spite of their situations. For Bonner\, these historical accounts encouraged her at a pivotal time in her life when she needed to see examples of strength and agency reflected in her community.

SUMMARY:Hilltop Streetscape Chalkboard
DESCRIPTION:Hilltop neighborhood come share your ideas about streetscape design. Draw or write on a community chalkboard located near 11th & MLK Way\, (next to Mr. Mac’s). The interactive community engagement chalkboard will help share additional ideas about the future MLK Corridor. \nThe boards will be temporarily installed\, weather permitting until Sept. 20th. Meant to gather input from passers-by to support streetscape planning for the city and sound transit\, three 4 x 4 ft chalkboards and 11″ x 17″ posters with prompts are displayed on a chain link fence. \nThe project is designed to get the viewer thinking about place in a different way. Statements like “If Hilltop was a Super Hero it would be _________________” or “The most important thing about Hilltop is __________________” are included on the posters. Periodically the boards will be photographed and wiped down to make room for more input. \nAttached is a postcard with general details including a picture of chalkboard activity at last month’s Hilltop Street Fair. \nIt’s a very straightforward project that I hope people respond to as they stumble upon it along the sidewalk. \nFor more information and to take a detailed survey visit www.SpaceworksTacoma.com/Links \nFill In The Blanks is part of Spaceworks and Links to Opportunity public engagement efforts. \n#LinksToOpportunity
